This polycarbonate hard-shell case, which comes in black, red, or blue, is one of the first ones I’ve seen that promises to actually protect your Kindle from water even if you submerge it. Waterproof up to 3 feet deep, and designed to float so that the screen always faces up, this might be the perfect case for summer pool/boat reading. Drawbacks: it’s heavy and expensive. Check out my full review for details.
A cheaper alternative to the M-Edge Guardian above, this polycarbonate shell completely encloses your Kindle 2 and protects it from sand, water, bugs, spills, snow, and anything else that gets near it. It probably isn’t submersible (unlike the Guardian), but on the other hand it’s less than half the price, and it provides quick access to the Power/Sleep button.
This is the professionally made version of slipping your Kindle into a Ziploc baggie. It’s not meant to protect the device from the bottom of the pool, but rather to keep out sand, raindrops, ocean spray, and the occasional spill. The transparent part is clear vinyl, while the button area is made of Lycra so that you can feel the hardware underneath. Although it looks a little loose, there’s actually a foam frame inside to hold the Kindle exactly in place.
TrendyDigital WaterGuard Sleeve
Basically a plastic, waterproof pouch for your Kindle, this sleeve will protect it from water, sand, and snow. Reviews on the Amazon page say it’s sort of a super-thick Ziploc bag with four seals and a fold-over button, so if you’re really looking to save money you can probably make a poor man’s version with a Ziploc freezer bag.
This case doesn’t promise to keep your Kindle dry underwater, but it should seal it off enough to keep out moisture, sand, and whatever else you throw at it. It also looks a lot nicer than the TrendyDigital bag above.
