I’ve commented in a few recent posts that so far, the only “active content” titles we’ve seen on the Kindle Store have been games. I like games, but I’ve been wondering why no developer has tried anything more ambitious.
Then “Dusk World” happens.
The day after I put together a list of all the games currently available (see “Games” in the navbar above), Amazon announces “Dusk World”:
“Dusk World is an interactive story for Kindle devices that combines interactivity with a graphic novel. The story takes place in Dusk City and combines crime, mystery, superhero and classic noir elements to create a vivid landscape full of colorful characters for you to interact with. The choices you make as Agent Patriot will lead you down different paths that determine the fate of both Dusk City and the world, not to mention Agent Patriot himself.”
It’s not just an ebook with lots of hyperlinks–it’s a self-contained app, and more comic book than Choose Your Own Adventure. (The developers call it a “Living Tales Adventure.”) The artwork seems to occupy that area between Sin City and Dick Tracy, and combines detectives, damsels, and superheroes/villains.
